The Ecology Center just released a report examining the unsafe levels of PBDEs (fire retardants) and phthalates (used make PVC softer). According to the University of California, Davis PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) are part of a larger group of toxic compounds known as POPs (persistent organic pollutants). PBDEs may cause liver toxicity, thyroid toxicity, and neurodevelopmental toxicity. Phthalates (DEHP in particular) can lead to reporductive and development problems in newborn males.
Clearly something must be done about this ever growing threat. We must lobby the automotive industry to stop building cars. Big industry should not have the right to make my children dumb and sterile! |
